I'm a 16-year-old girl and I'm thinking about my future. I really want to pursue a career involving math and science, but I'm too scared. It seems like most of the cool, popular, sexy, and charismatic people with lots of friends, followers, and media coverage are into business, politics, photography, fashion, sports, journalism, food, marketing, music, and all that other stuff. I'm called a "nerd" all the time and I feel like I'm constantly being perceived as a "weirdo". Seriously, I'm pretty sure people prefer talking about the 2012 candidates or the latest music more than theoretical physics or brain chemistry.
